David Turnbull isn’t even a year into his Celtic career but is already emerging as one of the club’s most exciting players, learning from players like Tom Rogic.
Signing from Motherwell last year, he had to remain patient for initial chances but has quickly shown everyone he is deserving of a regular starting spot in the Celtic first-team.
Celtic fans are already hoping he stays at the club for years. In a new era, our team could well be built around players like him.
For now, Turnbull is just happy to be involved and playing alongside teammates he had only ever experienced as an opponent prior to his big move.
One player he sounds in awe of is Rogic.
The Australian has come back into Neil Lennon’s plans recently and performed well, demonstrating the kind of attacking intelligence that breaks down defences.
Turnbull is loving the experience of performing and training alongside him, telling The Daily Record: “When I was up against Tom with Motherwell I always felt it was impossible to get the ball off him.
“He’s just so strong, he can hold the ball up and hold you off as well. There’s so many good touches – it’s just hard to get the ball off him.
“It was like that against him but he’s the same in training. He keeps himself to himself but there’s a bit of banter there. He’s such a chilled out guy. He’s right up there with the best I’ve played with or against. You see his technical ability when he plays.
“We’ve been playing together recently and hopefully he can continue to show it. He looked very sharp the other night, especially in the second half when we all kind of clicked together. We all showed our ability but Tom especially.”
David Turnbull will be learning loads from players like Tom Rogic at Celtic
Turnbull has a lot of natural ability. That’s clear to see. The way he moves with the ball and the vision he possesses is almost something that can’t be taught.
However, just being at Celtic and training every day alongside quality players will be improving his game no end.

Rogic, and others such as Odsonne Edouard, may not have hit the heights we wanted them to this season, but they still have the talent that is a benefit to young players such as Turnbull making a step up at a new club.
Now we have to hope it all clicks more consistently than one or two halves of football.
