Watching Celtic’s recent 0-0 draw with Aberdeen, the team were missing an impetus from midfield. Scott Brown and Nir Bitton aren’t the most attacking players, and the Hoops were without the injured Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor.
Looking at players from other clubs who could have fit into the side, one immediately sprung to mind. Motherwell’s David Turnbull.
An exceptional season
Turnbull has had an exceptional first season with the Steelmen, scoring nine goals in 25 games. That is more goals than any Hoops midfielder has scored this season, apart from Christie, who has scored 10 goals.
The Hoops should consider making a move for Turnbull in the summer. As he is still at the beginning of his career, it would be a smart idea to loan the player back to Motherwell for a season.
Get the player ready
The player would have another year of football under his belt before making the leap to the Scottish champions. That would certainly benefit him and get him ready for playing for the Hoops.
Celtic do have a lot of midfielders, but they don’t score a lot of goals. Turnbull could help to solve that problem. If he scores nine goals for Motherwell in a season, he could easily reach double figures at a team like Celtic.
Turnbull is certainly a player who should be on Celtic’s radar. The club should seriously consider making a move for the player.
