Former Celtic boss Davie Hay has some extremely high praise for Kieran Tierney. He feels that the now Arsenal left-back is as good as his old-team mate, the legendary Lisbon Lion Tommy Gemmell.

He also rates Tierney on a par with another legendary Celtic full-back, Danny McGrain.

“I was fortunate to play with Tommy Gemmell and Danny McGrain. I have no hesitation putting young Kieran in that bracket in terms of the great full-backs produced by Celtic” Hay said, as reported by the Evening Times.

Hay also thinks that Tierney will go on to be a big success in the Premier League.

A new dawn beckons for Celtic in Europe, as Joe Hart shows his class once again

“I have no fear about Tierney being good enough. He is going to be a sensation” he concluded.

Hay’s comments may surprise some people. Some people will disagree with his opinion on how good Tierney is. It is a huge compliment to compare Tierney to two of the best players in Celtic’s history.

Too early to tell if Tierney will match those legends

It is too early to tell if Tierney will go on to be as good as those players. Gemmell played in two European Cup finals. McGrain was a star for Celtic and Scotland for more than 10 years.

Should Tierney turn out to be as good as those two players, he will be a very good player indeed. It is just unfortunate that those years will be spent at Arsenal and not with Celtic.
