Former Celtic boss Davie Hay has revealed that he is disappointed to see veteran right-back Mikael Lustig leave Celtic.
The eight-time title winner joined Gent, after reports suggested that Celtic and Lustig couldn’t agree on the length of a contract to keep the player in Glasgow.
Hay feels that Lustig’s experience would have been vital to the Hoops side. Particularly one that is going for nine in a row next season.

“Keeping an experienced senior player”
“I thought Neil Lennon could have done with keeping an experienced senior player like Mikael Lustig next season” Hay said, as reported by the Evening Times.
“It would have done the Scottish champions no harm at all to hang on to him for the 2019/20 campaign at least. They are short now in the right back area.”

Comments reveal the biggest problem with player exit
Hay’s comments reveal the biggest problem Celtic face with Lustig’s exit. They are desperately short at right-back. It looks as if Anthony Ralston will take on that role for the time being.

However, Neil Lennon has to sign at least one right-back before the transfer window closes. It might even be a good idea to sign two right-backs, to provide competition.
Lustig might not have been the player he was five years ago. But as Hay points out, he will not be easy to replace for the Hoops.
Hopefully a replacement has been identified though, and will be signing for the club sooner rather than later.
