Former Celtic boss Davie Hay has named the player he believes should be crowned as Scotland’s player of the year.

That player is Celtic winger James Forrest. The Hoops winger is in the middle of the best season of his career, and Hay believes that run of form should be honoured at the end of the season.

“For me, he has been Celtic’s best player for the past 18 months” he told the Evening Times.

“It’s between James and Callum McGregor for Player of the Year and I think James is just ahead”.

It does seem that when it comes to Celtic and Scotland’s player of the year, the two Hoops players most likely to be nominated are Forrest and McGregor.

Super statistics

Forrest’s superb statistics from this season might just see him get the nod. So far this season he has 17 goals and 20 assists, which is a remarkable record.

McGregor has six goals and 12 assists, which is a very decent return when you consider that he doesn’t always play as an attacking force for the Hoops.

However, Forrest’s eye-catching statistics should be enough to win the award. His knack for scoring important goals, such as the opener in the recent win over Aberdeen, shouldn’t be discounted either.

Forrest was unfortunate to miss out on the award last season. He scored 17 goals, but was pipped to the accolade by Scott Brown.

It could be a different story this season. Davie Hay certainly thinks so.
