One of the key men at Celtic Park is the recently appointed head of football operations Nick Hammond. He will play a huge role in shaping the club’s future, particularly when it comes to transfers.
It is important that he works well with Hoops boss Neil Lennon, and chief executive Peter Lawwell. Therefore, some recent comments from Celtic legend Davie Hay are a promising sign about Hammond’s time at the club.
Hay, writing in his column in the Evening Times, disclosed that he met Hammond, who he worked with at Swindon, at a recent Celtic game, and Hammond is enjoying his time at the club so far.
“He loves it”
“It was good to bump into an old face in Nicky Hammond when Celtic played Lazio in Glasgow. He was a player when I was assistant manager at Swindon…he loves it at Celtic” Hay said.
The fact that Hammond ‘loves it’ at the club can only be a good thing. It might well indicate that Hammond is working well with both Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell. The trio will be key to Celtic’s progress in the future, so it is vital that they work well together.
Real proof of success will be in January
Of course, the real proof will come in the January transfer window. Hopefully Hammond is able to deliver the signings that not only allow Celtic to clinch nine in a row, but to also compete in the Europa League. Should the signings not work out well, then Hammond will be criticised.
However, should he help the Hoops’ run of success continue, then Hammond will be given plenty of plaudits by the support and no doubt by Neil Lennon.
It is still early days in Hammond’s tenure at Celtic Park. However, it can only be a good thing that Hay has commented that he is so far enjoying life at the club. It bodes well for the future.
