Davie Provan believes both Neil Lennon and Nick Hammond will follow Peter Lawwell out the Celtic exit door.
Lawwell announced his intention to retire at the end of the season on Friday after 17 years as the club’s Chief Executive. It follows incessant calls from the supporters for massive change to be carried out at the club.
Meanwhile, Lennon continued to stay in his position as Celtic slumped to another embarrassing new low. The Hoops lost 2-1 at home to St Mirren to make it only one win in six throughout 2021.
And Provan now believes it’s only a matter of time before Lennon and head of football operations Hammond leave too. As well as that, he outlined his hope that chairman Ian Bankier will resign also as he reflected on Lawwell’s departure.
As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Provan said: “Neil Lennon and his backroom team will be next out the door followed by head of recruitment Nicky Hammond. Hopefully, anonymous chairman Ian Bankier will do the decent thing as well. The club needs gutted from top to bottom.
“This season was an accident waiting to happen. All it took was for Rangers to put a proper team on the pitch and Gerrard has done that. Hoops punters, seduced by the worthless pursuit of The Ten, are now confronting an inconvenient truth.
“An opportunity to dominate Rangers and the rest of Scottish football for years has been blown.
“Despite fawning media coverage, his legacy [Lawwell] is not a pretty sight. For starters, his announcement leaves Lennon twisting in the wind. Lenny deserves better than to find himself warming the seat. With the title now gone he should be paid up now.”
Davie Provan makes a good point; but nobody at Celtic can hold their heads up high
It doesn’t matter whether you’re Dermot Desmond, Lawwell, Lennon, Hammond, or Bankier. Nobody in any position of authority at Celtic can hold their heads up high this season.
For the fact is that every single one of the names mentioned above have helped to play their part. Helped play their part in a disastrous season that fans have been waiting nine years for. It’s unacceptable and isn’t something that can just be brushed under the carpet.
Personally, I don’t care much for the narrative that Lawwell’s resignation has been planned for some time. I believe sheer supporter fury has sent the soon-to-be ex-chief executive packing. If Celtic had cruised to the 10, I don’t think we see this same statement from Celtic on Friday.

If it was used as an opportunity to distract fans from the “January Review” on Lennon, that hasn’t worked either. Especially when you take into account we just lost 2-1 at home to St Mirren for the first time in over 30 years. All of a sudden, it’s easy to forget the fact Lawwell is leaving.
For supporters, his resignation is just the beginning. The beginning of a substantial cull of the deadwood off the pitch at Parkhead. Provan is hopefully right in his belief that Lennon and Hammond will be off. Goodness knows what the future holds for John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan too.
But it certainly doesn’t look pretty as our season goes from one disaster to another.
In other news, the Celtic supporters have reacted to Scott Robertson’s loan move.
