Dedryck Boyata’s contract isn’t getting extended, that much has now been confirmed by his agent.

Jacques Lichtenstein, Boyata’s representative, has confirmed that his player won’t be staying in Glasgow after the summer. This came after he described new contract talks with Celtic as “not an option”.

After his performance in the Old Firm game, many fans won’t exactly be too disappointed. But it’s the sheer betrayal and messing about of the supporters that should have the club’s fans fuming with the Belgian.

A couple of months ago, Boyata effectively trolled the supporters. He put up a video on social media of a contract sitting in front of him with a signing emoji accompanying it.

As you would expect, this led to many Hoops fans getting excited. It looked like the man who signed back in 2015 was committing his future to Parkhead again.

That was then followed by weeks of silence up until this point. Indeed, Lichtenstein denied any chance of a new contract earlier on today. Speaking in the Scottish Sun, Boyata’s agent said the following:

“A new contract? Not an option. We’re not even talking.

“We have plenty of choice. We are looking at every proposition.”

He’s fooled Celtic for the last time

We at 67HailHail have always backed Boyata’s recent renaissance. It looked as though he was giving his all for the team and had only Celtic on his mind.

Whilst that probably still was the case, he played a risky game with that video. If it turned out that he actually wasn’t going to sign a new deal, then he had just fooled supporters once again.

There is the defence that the centre-back wasn’t aware of the potential backlash he would receive. Surely, however, you would expect him to have some common-sense about him.

Lichtenstein’s comments are a massive slap in the face to a Celtic support who stuck by Boyata. Even when he refused to play in Celtic’s biggest game of the season at AEK Athens, he was still eventually welcomed back.

Now, however, the club must see to it that he’s played his last ever game for the club. Despite all Celtic have done for Boyata, he refuses to let them sell him for his true value.

The sooner Celtic see the back of Boyata and Lichtenstein, the better. They’ve been fooled for the last time.
