Deloitte review of SPFL set for publication; Celtic will be watching closely
The Deloitte review of SPFL commercial and revenue opportunities is set to be published by July at the latest, Hibernian chairman Ron Gordon has told The Scottish Mail on Sunday. [22/05 print edition, page 141]
A working group that included Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee United and Dundee commissioned the study with approval from the SPFL board.
Gordon is excited by its publication, feeling there are a lot of positive steps to work through for the betterment of Scottish football, without the usual politics at play.
Deloitte SPFL review focused on four key areas
He told The Scottish Mail on Sunday: “I am encouraged by the willingness of everybody to really bring something positive to the table.
“We have one more meeting on one aspect. I think we should be in a position to present to the board in either June or July. Honestly, I am very encouraged by what I’ve seen so far. We have kept it very simple, there are no complicated aspects.
“Hopefully, when we present the plan everyone will get behind it because these are all very good building blocks for the Scottish game.
“There are some exciting things there for the league, I think. There has been a lot of collaboration and there has been good progress. I am excited about that.”
The Deloitte report is focused on four main areas – commercial growth, the SPFL brand, governance and structure, and strategic projects.
Celtic, of course, will be watching on very closely despite not being part of the group who brought it to the league board.
I think there’s a recognition from fans of many clubs, including our own, that the SPFL could be doing better in the promotion of the league and subsequent opportunities that brings.
It’s going to be very interesting to see what comes from this!
