Some Celtic supporters have reacted poorly to Rangers’ attempt to put forward a proposal to the SPFL and vote down the league board’s recommendation to potentially end the season and declare the Bhoys champions.
Neil Lennon’s team currently sit 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, having played one more game than the Ibrox side.
If the SPFL board’s proposal to end the season and decide final standings on a points per game basis comes to fruition then Celtic would win a ninth title in a row, if play did not restart this summer.
To counter that, Rangers have put forward their own idea of handing out cash immediately and deciding sporting matters later in a last gasp attempt to delay the inevitable of seeing the Hoops crowned Scottish champions again.
As quoted by The Daily Record, Rangers’ resolution reads: “That the board of the company be authorised and instructed to make payment to the member clubs of the league of loans equal to the amount that such member clubs would become entitled to if the Scottish Football Leagues were completed and each member club’s position in the completed league was the same as the position in which that member club is presently.
“Such loans to be provided without the payment of interest or fees to the league by the member clubs and to be made forthwith on the passing of this resolution and to continue to be available until the league determines that a final allocation of the payments to member clubs in respect of season 2019/2020 can be made.”
“On such determination by the league, member clubs shall be entitled to effect repayment by written confirmation to the league that the loan provided to that member club may be set against the equivalent amount of the repayment to be made to such member club on determination.”
Celtic fans though have reacted poorly to this, feeling that Rangers are simply looking for a cash grab based on their efforts this season, without coming to terms that the Hoops have also earned a league title win.
If the money is ready to be paid out, so should the prizes, surely?
These supporters have taken to Twitter over the last 48 hours to share their thoughts on it all…
Great headline. Let’s be clear; Rangers are broke and want second place money now! Celtic, of course, would get the champions place money but not the title. Titter. Desperate stuff from a desperate club. They also ‘expect’ support for their desperation. https://t.co/1r1nrj7mXZ

So, just to be clear, they want the money for finishing second but they don’t want us to get the trophy for finishing first – have I got that right?

I think you have just unearthed ‘deluded logic’ 🍀

Also don’t want title called as we aren’t guaranteed 1st mathematically whilst claiming 2nd place they aren’t guaranteed mathematically.

Just about. They want Celtic to get the money for finishing 1st but not the trophy i think. Time for @CelticFC board to grow a set, come out and and challenge this. If they want no title handed out unless 38 games played there should be no money handed out till 38 games played.

Well they want us to believe they are the same club so it’s not really a surpise is it? 😅

Something like that… an interest free loan to the value of what they would get.. no details when they should pay the loan back or if they or the SPFL would cover the tax on it 😉 sounds familiar
