Dens Park for Celtic next season after Friday night thriller; ICT suffer blow ahead of cup final

Dundee have won the Scottish Championship and earned promotion to the Premiership after an exciting 5-3 win away to Queen’s Park tonight.

Both teams had a chance of clinching the title this evening and both led the game at different points in a roller-coaster 90 minutes. Ultimately it was Gary Bowyer’s side who succeeded thanks to goals from Alex Jakubiak, Lee Ashcroft, Zach Robinson, Lyall Cameron and Luke McCowan.

It means that Celtic fans will be travelling to Dens Park on at least one occasion next term, with the Tayside club re-establishing themselves in the top flight after just a year’s absence. It could be a well-travelled route to the city if Dundee United also confirm their Premiership status in the final weeks of the season.

Inverness CT miss out on competitive schedule ahead of Celtic final

Elsewhere on a blockbuster final night in the Championship, Celtic’s Scottish Cup final opponents Inverness Caledonian Thistle have missed out on the promotion play-offs after being defeated 2-1 at home to Ayr United.

Queen’s Park, Partick Thistle and Ayr have booked their places in that process, with the eventual top dogs of that trio emerging to face the 11th-placed side in the Premiership.

From a Celtic perspective, it means that Billy Dodds’ team will now not play a single competitive match between now and the final on Saturday, June 3rd.

Clearly, that is not ideal for them in terms of keeping as sharp as possible. Although it also means they will be in full preparation mode for the final for a full month.

No doubt Dodds will line up a series of regular friendly or training matches to tune them up as much as possible, but obviously, he’d have much preferred a competitive schedule and the chance to move up a division.
