Derek McInnes makes bizarre claim after being beaten by Celtic

Celtic leave Rugby Park with all three points this afternoon and one step closer to the title.

Ange Postecoglou’s men were imperious in a twenty-minute spell where they surged to a 4-1 win in a performance that completely blew Derek McInnes’ side away within half an hour.

But McInnes made a bizarre claim that Celtic should have been reduced to ten men in the second half when Hyeongyu Oh challenged Kilmarnock defender Liam Donnelly for a loose ball where Oh tried to win the ball with a high boot.

Speaking on Sky Sports, McInnes said, “I thought there should have been a red card for Oh as well. We got Vassell sent off for a similar challenge at Easter Road.

“I don’t know what VAR are looking for. If it’s the same people on VAR that looked at the one at Easter Road.

“Liam Donnelly got a full foot in the face. Don’t want to see people being sent of for that but if my player is getting sent off at Easter Road. I do believe that was a red card as well.”

In my opinion, McInnes is clutching at straws here. I can’t comment on the Easter Road red card as I haven’t seen it but even though Oh’s foot is high, there was little if any connection with the Kilmarnock player’s face.

Oh’s boot connected with the player’s shoulder but there was a clear attempt to play the ball by the Celtic striker.

McInnes’s side sit second bottom of the SPFL four points from safety and if I was the Kilmarnock manager I would be more worried about his team’s first-half capitulation, than focusing on a red card that never was.
