Former Celtic academy youngster Kerr McInroy has officially signed for recently promoted Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

The 21-year-old midfielder has agreed to a two-year deal at Rugby Park after his contract at Parkhead expired this summer.

McInroy will now have the opportunity to play in the top-flight of Scottish football and against the Hoops next season for Derek McInnes’ side.

During his days in the Lennoxtown academy setup, McInroy was highly regarded and regularly captained youth sides at the club.

However, long-term injuries also hampered some of his development at a younger age.

During the 2019/20 season, the midfielder made his first appearances for the club in friendly outings against Ross County and Hibernian, in which he filled in at left-back for the injured Greg Taylor.

He also featured during pre-season under new boss Ange Postecoglou last summer. However, he was never handed a first-team competitive appearance.

Instead, the young midfielder headed out on a series of loan deals within Scottish Football, spending time with the likes of Dunfermline and Airdrie.

His most recent loan move came during the second half of last season, joining Ayr United, where he impressed and left the Championship side keen to keep him permanently.

However, McInroy has instead chosen to take the step up to Premiership level and join United’s Ayrshire rivals, Kilmarnock.

It is a great move for the youngster, who will be playing at the highest level of his career next campaign, having performed on the Championship and League One stage.

We wish Kerr all the best going into next season!
