You didn’t have to be an eagle-eyed Celtic supporter to notice something bizarre in a recent Jonny Hayes post-match interview.
As the Irishman spoke to Celtic TV after the 5-0 demolition of Partick Thistle, it became abundantly clear that there was a difference between his shirt and that of his fellow interviewee Jeremie Frimpong.
Quite simply – Hayes’ version had no collar.
Hayes may not be a fan of the Celtic collar
The fact that his shirt differed substantially from that of Frimpong’s wasn’t mentioned by the Celtic TV interviewer. But it did leave a lot open to the imagination. Had the shirt arrived like that? Had Hayes cut it off himself? Was it all part of a dressing room prank?
The most likely answer is that the Irishman took matters into his own hands and decided to discard the green trim. You can imagine a collar like that being a little annoying, especially if you are an explosive full-back/winger who’s job it is to run himself into the ground.

I guess we’ll find out the answer when Hayes next takes to the field. He’ll be unlikely to start the game at Hibernian on Saturday but we could see him deployed as a substitute once again.
The Irishman is fast becoming a bit of a cult hero at the club. Maybe the fans could all club together and get him a collarless shirt.
