Italian great Dino Zoff is looking forward to seeing how Odsonne Edouard performs against Lazio on Thursday.

There have been plenty of waves being made about the Frenchman. The fact he managed to score nine goals in four France under-21 matches has certainly attracted plenty of interest. As for his club form, however, he now has 11 goals for the season.

The Frenchman continues to get better and better, and scored in Celtic’s last Europa League match at home to CFR Cluj. There’s a confidence about him, and it’s clear that’s made its way over to Italy too.

Speaking in the Sunday Post, former Lazio manager and sporting director Zoff stated that he’s looking forward to seeing what the Frenchman comes up with on Thursday night.

“Everyone talks highly of Edouard, so I am curious to see him against Lazio. He is clearly doing very well, and to me it seems as if he is a very promising young man.

“It is international matches and European clubs which will give him visibility, so I think he should try to make the most of every opportunity to shine.

“They are a team who compete in Europe every year, and are well known as being formidable in ties at their own ground. The Italian expectation is for them to give Lazio two very tough matches.”

High-profile spectators will be in place Odsonne

Zoff won’t be the only high-profile spectator this Thursday night. Clubs who are continuing to scout French Eddy will likely be keeping a close eye on his European record.

Edouard has had a decent enough campaign in Europe this season. He has five goals to his name in all of our European matches. He put Cluj to the sword with a fine display several weeks ago, but this game is a bigger kettle of fish.

If Celtic can knock off Lazio at Parkhead, it puts us in a dream position. We would be seven points clear in the group after three games. It would be the strongest start we’ve made in Europe since Ronny Deila’s side in the 2014/15 season.

For Edouard, however, you have to imagine there will be plenty of motivation this Thursday. These are the games you get noticed in. If Zoff is looking forward to seeing what he has to offer, you can bet many in Italy will be feeling the same.

The fact that the former Italy manager has even mentioned him shows that he’s making an impression. A goal or two against the Serie A heavyweights this week will do him a power of good.

But, for us as supporters, three points are all that matter here. If we can secure them, regardless of how it’s done, it will be a massive boost for our campaign.
