“Disgraceful”; Celtic fans not happy with Lewis Ferguson’s late flashpoint with Albian Ajeti

There were plenty of Celtic supporters furious yesterday after a dreadful decision from Don Robertson towards the end of their game against Aberdeen at Hampden.

With the Hoops 2-0 ahead and cruising to yet another Scottish Cup final, it all appeared to be a bit too much to take for the Dons’ Lewis Ferguson. Indeed, he turned from hero to zero this week after scoring two penalties against Celtic at Pittodrie last weekend.

But in the closing stages yesterday, he launched what looked to be a nasty and cynical challenge as he flung his right arm into the face of Celtic striker Ajeti.

Yet, incredibly, referee Robertson didn’t even give Celtic a free-kick. Instead, with the game in added time, he allowed the play to contiue despite the fact Ajeti had received a clear blow to the face.

Ferguson had experienced a quiet afternoon throughout after being easily marshaled by Scott Brown and being outshone by Callum McGregor. It was a clear over-zealous approach from the Dons star, and it’s yet to be pulled up.

Last week, the Daily Record reported that Scott Brown could’ve received punishment for what was an innocuous clash with Aberdeen’s Scott Wright. Yet, despite Ferguson’s challenge (and we use that term loosely) being a lot worse, it hasn’t been brought up by anyone but the Celtic supporters.

It was also likely something that was on Ajeti’s mind at full-time too. The Swiss forward could be seen speaking to Robertson and his team on his way off the pitch, before being comforted by Neil Lennon.

Some have been calling on the compliance officer to take a look at the incident, which occurred when the game had well gotten away from Celtic’s opponents. Others have looked for the media to show the same interest in the clash as they did with Brown’s last week.

But the overriding feeling amongst the supporters who have spotted the incident has been anger. Here’s a look at some of their replies to the flashpoint, as well as a video of the challenge itself:
