‘Football is amazing’ – Callum McGregor delighted to see former Celtic duo doing ‘really well’

Celtic are currently in Italy as they make their final preparations for the new season.

Brendan Rodgers and his players will take part in the Como Cup, starting with a mouthwatering clash against Ajax on Thursday evening in Como.

Depending on the results, the winner of that tie will face the winner of Cesc Fabregas’ Como, or Saudi Pro League side, Al Ahli, on the weekend.

Let’s be honest, many Celtic supporters are hoping to pick up a win here and then face Como in the final, because it will then mean a reunion with two former players.

Callum McGregor on ex-Celtic duo Alex Valle and Nicolas Kuhn at Como

Nicolas Kuhn left Celtic this summer and was just recently training with the champions of Scotland, so he is fresh out of the door.

But Alex Valle, who was on loan for six months last season, had his spell cut short in the winter, sent back to Barcelona, signed for Como until the end of the campaign, and now that move has been made permanent.

Callum McGregor spoke about the duo in his pre-match press conference, including how he is pleased that they are doing ‘really well’ for themselves.

A journalist asked: “How does it feel to see Alex and Nicolas again. Not just as former teammates, but maybe as friends as well.” 

McGregor responded: “You cross paths so many times with new players, and you get to know them on a personal level as well.

“You spend so many days at the training ground. Hotels. Playing with each other and building connections. 

“It’s always nice when you see players move on and do really well for themselves. It will be nice to see those guys again.

“But football is an amazing industry where you travel the world. You meet new people, and it broadens your horizons as well, so really lucky to be a part of this, and good to see the guys again as well. Football is an amazing Industry.” 

Valle and Kuhn’s Celtic career in numbers 

Of course, Kuhn will be remembered far more than Valle because of the time the duo spent in Glasgow.

And yes, the German’s form dipped off towards the back end of last season, but it still doesn’t hide the memorable performances he produced, including picking up four trophies.

Valle’s spell was interesting. He looked really promising, and in truth, he should never have been let go.

It does seem as though talk around Kieran Tierney possibly coming back in January forced the club’s hand because, when you look at who the back-up left-back option is for next season, then Valle would have been the perfect player.
