Dom McKay has sent a message of appreciation to Celtic staff and supporters, while confirming that 24,500 fans would be allowed into Paradise against Dundee on the 7th of August.
Last week, it looked as if Celtic Park was preparing to open up for more of the Hoops faithful’s return. The Bhoys were given an “indicative number” of 24,500 by Glasgow City Council [Celtic FC]. Ultimately, that’s come to pass, with Paradise allowing over a third of its capacity to come back.
It’s fantastic news for supporters. Certainly, it’ll cause less heartache for those who didn’t win a ticket from the ballot scheme in weeks past [Celtic FC].
Dom McKay, Celtic’s CEO, had plenty of praise to offer. He said [Celtic FC]:
“I would like to thank our fans for all the fantastic support they have given us in reaching these levels. I would also like to thank all our staff for their efforts and hard work in allowing us to reach this stage, as well as the Safety Advisory Group for all their co-operation.
“We will be doing all we can to work closely with the relevant authorities and welcome our fans back in even greater numbers in the coming weeks.”
Great news for Dom McKay, the club and Celtic supporters alike
Granted, I’d take watching Celtic playing their own B Team at Paradise if it meant returning. While some have been lucky with the ballot system so far, so many more will get the chance to make their Celtic Park return.

And what a game, too. Dundee are exactly the kind of team Ange Postecoglou will want to assert his ideology upon. The lightning-fast counter attack, the directness, the inverted full-backs overloading the midfield, all of it. Ange will have drawn a ring around this one in the calendar.
Now, with 24,500 supporters attending? What would’ve been a run-of-the-mill Scottish Premiership encounter takes on extra significance. European nights are great, of course. But the regularity, the routine and the rituals of a weekend league match are hard to beat.
This is great news, and if uptake of vaccines continues, with a downward trend in cases, then it can only get better.
