It wasn’t that much of a shock to see Mikael Lustig return to the Celtic starting line-up for the recent 2-0 win over Hibernian.
Lustig was brought to the club by Neil Lennon. Therefore, it seemed inevitable that he would restore him to the side when he returned to Celtic as interim manager.
With Lustig back in the side, does this mean another veteran will return to the Hoops team – goalkeeper Craig Gordon? The chances of that happening would look to be slim.
Lennon had ideal opportunity to bring player in
If Gordon was going to replace Scott Bain it would have happened in the Hibs game. That would have been the ideal opportunity for Lennon to show that he has faith in a goalkeeper that Brendan Rodgers dropped.
That didn’t happen though, and being honest, Bain deserves to keep his place in the Hoops starting line-up.
Bain has superb record
In the 13 games he has played since replacing Gordon in the first-team, Bain has conceded only 5 goals. That is a superb record, which deserves plenty of praise. The fact that Bain was partly to blame for the penalty the Hoops conceded against Hearts but kept his place in the team speaks volumes.
The only way it looks like Gordon will return to the Hoops first-team is if Bain picks up an injury. It will be interesting to see where the future lies for the player, as if he wants to play regular football departing Celtic might be his best option.
