‘Don’t mention him a lot’… Peter Grant blown away by unsung Celtic hero in rout of Dundee

Celtic’s win over Dundee was a complete team performance from the Bhoys.

However, there have been a few players who have been given special praise for their performances last night.

Brendan Rodgers hailed Hyunjun Yang for turning around his early season form to produce an outstanding performance last night.

The Celtic boss also paid tribute to young Daniel Kelly as he made a goalscoring Scottish Premiership debut for the Hoops.

And Peter Grant himself also pinpointed Celtic duo, Alistair Johnston and Yang for their superb play down the right flank last night.

The former Celtic hero was also blown away with Tomoki Iwata as the Japan international produced another midfield masterclass against the Dens Park side.

Terrific Tomoki shows his Celtic class

I picked out Iwata as one of two Celtic players who excelled last night and it seems that Grant shares the same opinion but he also believes his work goes largely unnoticed.

Grant said [Celtic TV], “He’s been excellent. You don’t mention him a lot and sometimes because he moves the ball so quickly.

“He takes minimal touches on it. He picks it up, moves it. He’s always in the right area when the ball breaks down.

“He’s always in the right position to receive and pass from his teammates.”

Iwata has always impressed me every time he’s pulled on a Celtic jersey and the stats last night on the link above show that he is very effective in that number six position in the Hoops midfield.

It seems now that Rodgers has eventually solved the Reo Hatate midfield conundrum that has plagued Celtic all season and it’s come at the perfect time for the Hoops boss.

With Hearts up next, Iwata will be pivotal if Celtic are to get anything from Tynecastle on Sunday.
