"Don't you dare"; Celtic fans warn club not to consider controversial managerial move

Some Celtic fans appear to have real concerns after a late Sunday night development had them dreading a controversial managerial scenario.

Indeed, Paul Lambert left Ipswich Town last night in a statement confirmed by the club. The Championship side stated that Lambert left by “mutual consent” as he leaves them eighth in the table.

The decision came rather bizarrely after it appeared that the Tractor Boys had produced an upturn in form. Ipswich have won back-to-back games and are unbeaten in four. However, that wasn’t enough to halt Lambert’s departure from the club.

In recent days, the Road to Seville hero has been discussing whether he would be a potential fit for the Celtic job. He appeared to dismiss any notion he could replace Neil Lennon. Lambert stated that he wants to keep his positive relationship with the Hoops support as strong as possible.

But even so, his Ipswich departure is difficult to ignore. For many of us, it comes at a peculiar time with Celtic clearly on the lookout for a new manager. It remains to be seen to what scale the club downsizes this summer too after another year without Champions League money and fans on seats.

Celtic fans don’t want a controversial move at this stage

Lambert’s managerial career started brilliantly with Colchester United and Norwich City. However, it’s been a long-term since his stock was on the rise. Aston Villa, Blackburn, Wolves, Stoke, and now Ipswich have failed to reap success with him at the helm.

Whilst Lambo is clearly an experienced manager at this point, he isn’t a successful one. He’s now operating at a level where Celtic shouldn’t be delving into to find a successor to Lennon. Not if we have serious aspirations about rebuilding the club properly.

John Kennedy looks like being in charge until the end of the season of course. That should provide more opportunities for Celtic to look at what’s out there.

But the idea of a Lambert return has concerned supporters nevertheless. Even if his departure from Ipswich is interestingly timed, it hasn’t stopped the fear getting into some.

Here’s a look at some of the fan reaction to last night’s announcement.
