Dorin Goian speaks hypes up Cluj chances against Celtic
Former Rangers defender Dorin Goian thinks Cluj have what it takes to beat Celtic.
The former Romanian international spoke to the press ahead of next week’s tie.
Cluj narrowly defeated Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the last round and host the Champions in the first leg.
Goian has expressed weaknesses in the Celtic defence that he thinks his countrymen will exploit.
Dorin Goian thinks Cluj can beat Celtic
The 38-year-old is backing Cluj in the crunch tie next week.
He believes they have a good a chance as any to go into the group stages of the Champions League.
They have made it before in 2015 but it is a much tougher ask for years on.
Nevertheless, Goian thinks Cluj can overcome this hurdle.
He told the Scottish Sun: “Celtic isn’t a scary fixture for Cluj. Not at all.
“Cluj are capable of eliminating Celtic. Cluj have great players.
“The experience Cluj show in each game gives me confidence they can qualify for the groups.”
Goian is currently a manger in the third tier of Romanian football with Bucovina Rdui.
He should know all about the home side but his knowledge on the Hoops is lacking.
There’s one area Goian thinks will be open to exploit next week.
Dorin Goian backs Cluj on the counter-attack
The former centre-back thinks the Hoops defence is shaky and Cluj can use that to their advantage.
He said: “The counter-attack might be the secret weapon for Cluj. Celtic attack a lot, but they often leave room in defence.
“But their game consists of long balls and they have big problems when they face a well-organised defence.”
The final sentence is a bit of a question mark regarding Goian’s Celtic knowledge.
If he watched the recent games this season, it shows the Hoops aren’t a long ball outfit at all.
Ball players like Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, James Forrest and Lewis Morgan prove this.
Cluj have been mouthy since the pairing was made and they’re going to have egg on their face next week.
