Double injury boost for Celtic in training after midweek rumours

Celtic defender Moritz Jenz took part in training today, despite reports of him having to limp off from a bounce match at Lennoxtown earlier this week.

Jenz was said to be a doubt for this Sunday’s match against Aberdeen, and while there’s no guarantee he will still feature in the matchday squad, he is at least in training.

The club uploaded photos from this morning’s session on social media, with Jenz spotted alongside Callum McGregor, Anthony Ralston and, yes, Carl Starfelt.

It’s a double boost for supporters, with Starfelt having come through his rehabilitation phase to take part in proceedings with the group once again.

The Swede picked up a hamstring injury on international duty and has missed the vast majority of pre-season, including all of the friendly matches.

He’s unlikely to feature against the Dons and will need more time on the training pitch to get up to match sharpness, but it’s an encouraging sign for sure.

Stephen Welsh remains the smart choice to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers on Sunday given his good form in pre-season. He certainly seems to be ahead of Christopher Jullien in Ange’s defensive pecking order.

Aberdeen arrive in confident attacking form, albeit against lower league teams in the League Cup. We’ll need to be sharp at both ends of the pitch to pick up the first three points of the season.

With Ange Postecoglou set to confirm the status of several players in a press conference later today, we should find out even more about the squad he has for the curtain-raiser.
