Dundee have announced the sacking of manager James McPake just 4 days out from their scheduled trip to Celtic Park.
McPake’s final game in charge came in Monday night’s 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Peterhead. Afterward, he was already looking ahead to the clash with the Hoops as he referenced it in his post-match comments [The Courier].
The Dee currently sit just 1 point ahead of St Johnstone at the bottom of the Premiership, having only won 5 of their 25 matches in the league this season.

Yet the timing of the announcement is a curious one. Dundee have just come off 2 consecutive wins after a priceless victory for them at Tynecastle last week.
The Dens Park club have yet to announce their managerial plans for Sunday’s scheduled trip to Parkhead.
Meanwhile, Celtic face Bodo/Glimt tomorrow before our attentions turn back to Premiership action.
Dundee undergoe major upheaval days before Celtic trip
Well, that’s a bit of a surprise to say the least. Sure, the season has been anything but impressive from McPake’s side. However, they’re picking up their form and look like going on a potential run that could’ve taken them out of the relegation zone.
It’s a touch odd that he won’t get the opportunity to see that job through. McPake had certainly earned the opportunity with recent results. From the outside looking in, it appears as if something else may have come up that’s ended this relationship so abruptly.
It’ll now be interesting to see whether Dundee make a swift appointment before they face Celtic at the weekend. There are no signs as of yet when it comes to who’ll be in caretaker charge. Something you would expect to change in the coming days.

Not that Ange Postecoglou will be overly concerned about any major changes the Dee might make. Whilst he’ll undoubtedly feel sympathy for McPake losing his job, we would like to think Celtic would be far too strong for any changes to make any real effect on this weekend’s game.
The usual suspects will no doubt begin to be rolled out for contention in the coming days too. The likes of Jack Ross and Neil Lennon, for example, will be 2 of the names in the picture.
But from a Celtic perspective, we press ahead with tomorrow’s colossal match with Bodo/Glimt as our European campaign gets underway.
