Dundee United appear to have received some big injury boosts before Celtic tie

The injury crisis that looked like rocking Dundee United heading into Monday night’s clash with Celtic appears to have eased substantially.

The Tannadice club will host Ange Postecoglou’s treble-hunters in what looks like a mouth-watering Scottish Cup quarter-final showdown in the City of Discovery.

However, things looked bleak for them injury-wise just several days ago. Captain Ryan Edwards came off against Hearts with a broken nose, whilst Charlie Mulgrew, Dylan Levitt, and Tony Watt all hadn’t featured and were big injury concerns.

But Courts has now revealed that 2 of those mentioned above will be back in training whilst Edwards is also good to go. The only one that’s now causing them concern is one of the former Celtic men.

As quoted by the Scottish Daily Express, United boss Courts said: “Charlie and Dylan have both been training but Tony is one we are monitoring.

“Ryan Edwards is fine, he might have to go in and get his nose seen to in the summer but he’s a centre-half and that comes with the territory.”

Dundee United not going to be as short for Celtic clash at it first looked

So, to sum it up, United are now really only concerned with January signing Watt. Mulgrew, Levitt, and Edwards appear to have been deemed fit and available for Monday night’s game.

It’s not a blow for Celtic by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, you could perhaps say that it’s even a boost for us to be up against United’s strongest team.

After all, look at our most recent slip-ups domestically. Our last dropped points came in a 0-0 draw against Hibernian who were missing as many as 8 players [Edinburgh Evening News]. The same goes for our previous draw before that at St Mirren, who were stricken with Covid absences at the time [BBC].

Both matches came against full-strength Celtic teams too. Whatever the reason, we’ve hardly taken advantage when clubs have had injury problems.

Celtic, of course, will be without both David Turnbull and Kyogo Furuhashi respectively. But that’s a problem we’ve gotten used to in recent months.

It remains to be seen how United line-up on Monday night, but the Arabs will certainly be buoyed with their injury boosts.
