Dundee United supporters left in sheer despair after drawing Celtic in Scottish Cup

Many Dundee United supporters have been left absolutely gutted after drawing Celtic in the Scottish Cup last night.

The Hoops will make the journey to Tannadice on the weekend of March 12th as we look to book another spot at Hampden after our League Cup win back in December.

Celtic have 2 wins out of 3 against the Tannadice side this season. However, it was our visit to Tannadice that saw our most convincing performance and result against them – a 3-0 mauling in early December.

United have given Celtic real problems at Celtic Park of course. Ange Postecoglou’s side were held to a 1-1 draw back in September before needing a last-minute winner to see off the Arabs in Glasgow just last month.

The cup tie actually represents a fixture many Celtic fans would likely have rather avoided. A home tie would’ve been preferable given our schedule, and the opposition certainly could’ve been more straightforward too.

However, from a United perspective this is probably just typical. After battling through an away tie against Partick Thistle at the weekend, they’ll have been hoping for a routine home clash against a lower-ranked Premiership side.

Instead, they have Postecoglou’s high-flying league-leaders coming to the City of Discovery instead. Not really much of a reward for their progress but it is the luck of the draw after all.

United haven’t beaten Celtic at Tannadice since 2014. And it’s fair to say that not many will be giving them a chance of ending that streak so long as the Hoops keep their strongest XI fresh.

Postecoglou certainly won’t be taking this one lightly in any case. With a potential treble still up for grabs this season, there shouldn’t be even a scintilla of complacency around the place.

But as for United, many of their supporters have been left gutted with the draw. Here’s a look at some of their instant reaction to it last night:
