Werder Bremen are also in the running for Celtic target Georgios Giakoumakis and have already seen an offer for the player rejected, Voetbal Primeur reports.

The report states that Bremen recently lodged a €2million [£1.7m] offer for the Greece international. That was turned down, with Voetbal Primeur stating that VVV-Venlon want as much as €5m [£4.2m] for their star man.

Yesterday, the Daily Record reported that Ange Postecoglou had personally called the player, who was left impressed with the Celtic boss’ vision.

The Record also stated that a fee of £2.5m is expected to be enough for the player. This contradicts the apparent valuation VVV-Venlo have as reported by Voetbal Primeur.

In any case, it looks as though there is indeed more than one suitor for the Greek striker. Not surprising given he was the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season.

Bremen, of course, aren’t the attraction they once were. They’re currently operating in the Bundesliga 2 after being relegated back in May 2021.

They recently announced a regime overhaul back in June, headed by new manager Markus Anfang. But they’ve hardly started their campaign in great shape.

Bremen have only won one of their opening three league games. They were also dumped out of the DFB-Pokal at the first-round stage by Bundesliga 3 side VFL Osnabruck.

They’re not a particularly attractive proposition at the moment. At least not when you compare them to a club such as Celtic who are fighting for Europa League football.

The Hoops are trying to win back their league title this season and build something special under Ange Postecoglou. If it’s a straight choice between the Bhoys and Bremen, there’s surely only one answer.

Granted, it doesn’t even look as though Bremen have had an offer accepted for the player as of yet. With their first being deemed not high enough, there’s no guarantee they’ll come back in. But Celtic may want to start moving quickly just in case.
