There was a lot going on for the Celtic fans to keep track of in last night’s Champions League draw with Atalanta.

With the Celtic dealing with wave after wave of Atalanta attacks, Brendan Rodgers’ side were under the cosh for much of the 90 minutes as they battled to keep the Serie A top-goalscorers at bay.

Many Celtic supporters were probably watching much of the game from behind their sofas or through the cracks of their fingers and are likely to have missed what Joe Hart spotted in the 70th minute of the 0-0 draw in Bergamo.

Celtic dealt with Atalanta ‘chaos’ to leave Gian Piero Gasperini’s side stumped

No matter how much Atalanta threatened the Celtic goal, they just couldn’t find the breakthrough. And as the Celtic fans hoped their team would hang on of for the 90 minutes, Hart said he saw when Atalanta ‘ran out of ideas’ against the Scottish champions.

Hart told TNT Sports, “They’ve done so well tonight. So many moments in that game it felt like the pressure was similar to the Dortmund game.

“Dortmund got out of control very quickly, but this time Celtic could deal with the chaos, win the big headers, got a little bit of luck, and some big saves from Schmeichel.

“Once it got through to 70 minutes it felt like Atalanta ran out of ideas. Celtic as a complete squad, brilliant effort.”

Celtic silence Champions League doubters

Brendan Rodgers pulled off probably one of Celtic’s best-ever results against an Italian side in the Champions League group stages.

Although Celtic have beaten Lazio twice in the Europa League and also drawn with Udinese, the Parkhead club have never mustered a single point away to a Serie A side in Europe’s biggest club competition.

The confidence this result will give Celtic and Brendan Rodgers heading into the next two European home games cannot be underestimated.

Should Rodgers manage to win against RB Leipzig and Club Brugge then automatic qualification from the league phase of the Champions League would be will within Celtic’s grasp.
