Eboue Kouassi has joined KRC Genk on loan until the end of the season – in a move that could signal the end of his Celtic career.
That’s because the Belgian top-flight side reportedly hold an “option to buy” on the Ivorian midfielder should his loan spell be a success.
The Herald confirmed the transfer on Thursday morning, and released the interesting detail about Kouassi’s future beyond the end of this current campaign.

The midfielder is out of contract in the middle of 2021 (transfermarkt.co.uk) so this coming summer will be our last time to try and recoup a healthy amount of the £2.8million we shelled out for his services three years ago. (Daily Record)
Nevertheless, it is interesting to see the club practically wave goodbye to the former Krasnodar man.
Some fans felt that Kouassi always had the chance of some sort of future in Glasgow and that this loan move would be with the intention of getting him back up to speed.
But now it seems like it’s simply a ‘try before you buy’ for Genk.
If it works, they will likely complete his permanent signing in the summer. If not, then we will have to find someone else to take him of our hands.
The whole Kouassi fiasco is another black mark against Brendan Rodgers’ recruitment.
Other than a few notable hits, the Northern Irishman was a real disaster for the club in the transfer window.
He wasted millions of pounds on sub-standard players along with his head of recruitment Lee Congerton.
Thankfully both are now away from the club and we can try and sign quality in key positions. But only after we try and undo some of their worst work.
