Watching Martin O’Neill begin his third spell as Celtic manager with a win is a sight that everyone loves to see.

Celtic beat Dundee United 4-0 to restore some smiles back to the faces of the Hoops faithful following the nightmare under Wilfried Nancy.

It keeps the Bhoys in the title race, albeit having played before Hearts and Rangers, with a renewed sense of optimism.

Plenty were at Parkhead to watch on, but there was one face that will be familiar to people south of the border.

Barry Bannan spotted watching Celtic vs Dundee United

While our clubs were involved in Scottish Premiership clashes, the FA Cup third round was taking place in England.

Some teams use that as an opportunity to rest players and Sheffield Wednesday did that by allowing star man Barry Bannan to attend Celtic’s game against Dundee United.

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen explained his absence for their 2-0 loss against Brentford by confirming that he had an injury that they didn’t want to risk.

“Barry had something with his neck, but it’s not an injury. He has played so many minutes and the risk right now is too big,” he told the Sheffield Star.

Barry Bannan dreams of Celtic testimonial

Bannan has always made it clear that he has been a lifelong Celtic fan, and even spent two years at the club as a youth player.

He never made the cut and instead forged his career down south, first with Aston Villa, and now Wednesday.

A testimonial for the Owls legend is not too far away in the distant future, and the midfielder dreams of playing against Celtic for it.

Speaking in 2024, he said: “I think everybody knows! If not them, then maybe I’d have one of my old teams like Aston Villa or something but I’m not bothered to be honest. As long as all my home fans are here and my family, if you get a good turnout and your family are here then it would be great.
