The initial discussion part of today’s EGM between all 42 clubs in the SPFL has concluded, with votes cast on proposals to conduct an independent investigation into the league’s executive, BBC journalist Kheredine Idessane reports.

Rangers, Hearts and Stranraer called for the EGM after being left furious with the handling of a prior club vote last month that brought the lower leagues to an end and gave the SPFL board express permission to end the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership campaign in the event fixtures could not be played.

Today’s video conference meeting started at 11am, with discussions apparently concluding in less than 90 minutes.

BBC Sport Scotland journalist Kheredine Idessane reported on Twitter at 12:20pm: “The SPFL EGM discussion is over and the votes are in. Well , they’ve been emailed anyway …. meeting adjourned and will reconvene at 3 for the results.”

A number of clubs in recent days have thrown their support behind Rangers’ call for an investigation but it’ll be very interesting to see if enough are on board.

At least nine of the 12 Premiership clubs, eight of the 10 Championship clubs and at least 15 of the 20 clubs that make up League One and Two must vote for the proposals in order for the investigation to go ahead (BBC).

That’s 32 of the 42 member clubs in total, a voting threshold of 76%.

It’s a tall order and if the proposals pass it means Scottish football has entirely lost faith with the SPFL’s governance of the leagues.

If the proposals fail, then hopefully the clubs can all begin to move forward and focus on really important issues facing Scottish football.

The primary concern, as far as I can see, is how to make playing behind closed doors financially viable for clubs who rely massively on ticket income.

Will we return to grown-up conversations when the results come in at 3pm, or will Scottish football descend into a deeper whirlpool of statements and accusations?
