Celtic loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi has been very honest about Celtic’s recent performance against Lazio. The Hoops might have won the game 2-1. However, the Southampton attacker admitted that the team didn’t perform well enough in the first-half, and deserved to be 1-0 down at half-time.
“They were better”
“It was a difficult game, they were better than us in the first half, and I think we were better than them in the second half” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.
Elyounoussi then turned his attention to Sunday’s game against Aberdeen at Pittodrie. He vowed that he and his team-mates will be ready for what could be a tough game.
“We enjoyed Lazio, but now we have to focus on a difficult away game at Aberdeen. Hopefully everyone is ready.”
The player’s comments are remarkably honest. Especially when you consider that he didn’t have the best night for the Hoops. He was replaced in the second-half when the Hoops were 1-0 down.
Still, he doesn’t seem to be upset be Neil Lennon’s decision to replace him with Tom Rogic.
Will be hoping to perform better in next match
It ended up working out for the team, so how could be upset with the outcome. Elyounoussi will be hoping to perform better against Aberdeen at Pittodrie though. That will be a big match for the Hoops in the title race.
If can replicate the form he showed in his recent performances against Cluj and Ross County, then he could make a big impact on the game. If not though, Neil Lennon has already shown that he isn’t afraid to make tough decisions, and he could well decide to substitute the player once more.
It is up to Elyounoussi to prove that he deserves to keep his place in the starting line-up, and keep showing why Southampton paid £16 million to sign him.
