Kris Boyd was not a happy man on Sky Sports duties this afternoon, reviewing Rangers’ decision to part ways with manager Michael Beale.
In a lively debate with former Celtic star Chris Sutton and others, Boyd was clearly fuming with the situation at Ibrox and labelled Rangers’ distance to the Bhoys right now as ’embarrassing’.
Speaking before Rangers took on St Mirren, he said [Sky Sports]: “When you lose three of your first seven Premiership games, you’re going to be under pressure. Rangers are trailing Celtic by ten points at this moment in time, we’re just into October. It’s embarrassing. It really is embarrassing.
“The club from top to bottom is all over the place. Somebody needs to get a grip of it, and pretty soon, because this can’t go on.”
Rangers have subsequently cut that gap to seven points having now played the same amount of games, but the thrust of Boyd’s negativity remains. They are miles off the champions and don’t look like getting near the Bhoys anytime soon.
A smirking Sutton enjoyed needling Boyd throughout the pre-match build-up on a range of issues, notably calling out the former Rangers man for not speaking against appointing Michael Beale in 2022.
Videos are doing the rounds on social media of Boyd visibly annoyed with Sutton’s assertions and line of questioning.
It’s probably exactly the kind of exchange that Sky were hoping for by bringing the former Celtic man on board during the summer.
Over the last week it’s clear that their supporters and pundits are rapidly losing faith that anything is salvageable from this season. It’s amusing, but Celtic can’t get complacent.
As much as it is fun to watch things unravel across the city, everyone at the Bhoys knows that they need to remain focused and keep working hard to deliver the success we all crave this season.
