Celtic were in need of an old favourite against St Mirren on Wednesday night, and he didn’t let them down.
Emilio Izaguirre replaced the injured Kieran Tierney in the Hoops line-up, and the Celtic veteran turned in a fine performance in the 2-0 victory.
Played at a high level

It was like the glory days of 2010 all over again, as Izaguirre had plenty of joy down the left-hand side. For one night at least, Izaguirre showed that he could play at a high enough level.

If Celtic want to give Tierney more time to recover from his injury problems, Izaguirre is more than capable of also doing a job against Livingston on Saturday.
Livingston match could suit Izaguirre

With all due respect to Livingston, they are unlikely to attack much at Celtic Park. Therefore, Izaguirre could be useful in an attacking sense. That has always been the best side of his game, and it hasn’t changed after all these years.
If Tierney fails to make the Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen, Neil Lennon would have a decision to make. Izaguirre was poor against the Dons at Pittodrie in December. Indeed, he was substituted at half-time.
A game against Aberdeen could be a step too far for Izaguirre. Jonny Hayes could well step into the side.
That is for next week though. For now, all at Celtic can be pleased with Izaguirre’s performance against St Mirren.
