Former Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre has suffered a demoralising defeat while playing for his country. The 33-year-old was part of the Honduras side who were thumped 7-0 by a rampant Brazil on Sunday night.

Izaguirre played 79 minutes of the match before being substituted. He went off with the score at 7-0 after the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho had put their stamp on the game.

Brazil are warming up for the Copa America which gets underway on the 14th June while Izaguirre and Honduras will be taking part in the Gold Cup, which starts a day later.

A new dawn beckons for Celtic in Europe, as Joe Hart shows his class once again

Are there any other former Celts in action this summer?

There’s not too much to interest any avid followers of former Celtic players. The Gold Cup features both Izaguirre and Cristian Gamboa. The latter is turning out for Costa Rica who are seen as one of the favourites for the competition.

Gamboa made his final appearance for Celtic back at the start of December against Motherwell. He missed every single one of our last 32 matches of the season, making the bench on just three occasions.

It was a sad end for a player who did threaten to offer something in his early days at the club. It will be interesting to see if the recent Izaguirre and Gamboa experiences will stop the club from shopping for Central American players again.
