Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Guendogan has named Celtic as the team he loved playing against after experiencing Parkhead in 2016.

The 31-year-old has performed at the highest level for over ten years, playing in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and as a big part of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.

During that time, Guendogan has become a serial trophy winner, picking up the English Premier League four times and also lifting the Bundesliga title in his homeland.

The midfielder has also experienced the UEFA Champions League final on two occasions at his last two clubs, finishing runner-up on both attempts to lift the trophy.

Along the way, Guendogan will have faced some of the best football sides across the globe and travelled to incredible stadiums such as the Camp Nou or the Santiago Bernabéu.

Yesterday evening, the Manchester City man took to Twitter and answered some questions that supporters had sent in ahead of English league action returning this weekend.

One of the questions asked was the team he loved playing against most during his 14-year career so far.

Guendogan responded by stating that his favourite game that he played in was during Manchester City’s trip to Celtic Park in the 2016 Champions League group stage match.

The German internationalist started for the English Premier League giants in the Hoops’ first home game of the group stages, in an entertaining 3-3 draw between the sides.

With Celtic not enjoying too much success in Europe across the last few years, that night in 2016 is fondly remembered as Brendan Rodgers Invincible side began to take shape.

Coming up against a Manchester City team who had made an unbeaten start to the season, the Bhoys looked fearless on the night, taking the game to Guardiola’s side.

It will be seen as a classic European night for years to come, with Celtic Park rocking and helping the Hoops on their way to a point in the UCL group stages.

That night certainly seems to have left its mark on that Manchester City side, with players such as John Stones having also previously opened up on their unbelievable Celtic Park experience.
