European clubs struggle to match Celtic’s 2020 domestic record

Celtic are in the hunt to be the only remaining top-flight European club with a 100% league record in 2020.

Since returning to action, the Hoops have managed to secure an impressive eight consecutive Scottish Premiership wins.

Heading into the weekend, there were only three other clubs in Europe’s top divisions who were on a 100% run. Liverpool, Galatasaray, and Feyenoord were all putting together flawless streaks this year.

However, Watford’s 3-0 hammering of England’s Champions-elect was coupled with Feyenoord being held to a 1-1 draw at PSV Eindhoven. Therefore, both Liverpool and the Dutch outfit are out of the running to be the club with the longest league-winning run this year.

Unfortunately, however, Galatasaray are still keeping up with us. They hammered Genclerbirligi 3-0 to keep their own run going. Their success means that they’ve now won seven consecutive matches in their own top-flight division.

An incredible run that will now face some real dangers

It’s a sensational achievement from Celtic. We’re the only club in Europe’s top-flight divisions to have won every single domestic match in 2020 (Daily Record). That includes three Scottish Cup victories against Partick Thistle, Clyde, and St Johnstone respectively.

It really does put our run of form into an entirely different perspective. This is a club that has broken so many records over the past few years that it’s difficult to keep up. Beating every other side in Europe when it comes to domestic dominance, however, deserves an unlimited amount of credit.

Nevermind the “oh it’s only Scotland” nonsense. The likes of Ajax, Cluj, Fenerbahce, Porto, Benfica, Copenhagen, AIK, and Zenit all come from lesser European leagues yet don’t have the same consistency we do.

Granted, it’s about to come under some serious threat over the next couple of weeks. The Hoops travel to Livingston tomorrow night – a venue where we haven’t managed to win at on our previous two trips.

After a home match with St Mirren, we then head to Ibrox to face a side who defeated us the last time we played them at Celtic Park and have won two of the last three meetings in Govan. There’s no point pretending Rangers away won’t be a difficult game, but it ultimately provides us with a glorious chance to reaffirm our dominance once again.

So it’ll be interesting to see how long this domestic winning run of ours last. But you simply have to tip your hat to the Hoops for continuing such fine form into March.

Give us your own verdict on this achievement. What does it mean to you? Should we be making more of such fine records? Let us know in the discussion forum below.
