The fallout of Dermot Desmond’s brutal Celtic statement about Brendan Rodgers is not just being felt in Scotland.
The UK media are all over it as every ex-player, pundit and journalist gives their take on what is happening at Celtic this week.
No sooner had Brendan Rodgers left Celtic, Desmond had his letter penned, typed and ready to publish on the Hoops’ official website as the major shareholder took aim at the ex-Parkhead boss.
And as the headlines continue to grow in Scotland, Europe’s media have also reacted to Rodgers leaving Celtic and it’s not a great look for the club.

Europe’s media reacts to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic ‘earthquake’
As the Scottish media and Celtic bloggers all give their take on the Rodgers/Desmond fallout, what does the European media make of it all?
Eurosport France: “Brendan Rodgers and Celtic Glasgow are well and truly done, after a disastrous start to the season. A reigning champion already eight points behind in the standings is bound to be a disappointment.
“Brendan Rodgers resigned as Celtic manager on Monday after these poor results. Two-time Scottish champions since his return in 2023, the Scots have sunk into a bad patch that the Northern Irishman has been unable to resist.”
Sport Bild (Germany): “Celtic earthquake! Club boss takes issue with coach Rodgers. Fierce mudslinging at Celtic Glasgow!
“After just over two years, Brendan Rodgers (52) has resigned from the storied Scottish club.
“The club confirmed his resignation on Monday evening. Shortly thereafter, Celtic released another statement – and it was a powerful one.”
TodoMercado (Spain): “End of the Brendan Rodgers era: He resigns as Celtic manager, the reason. In a dramatic 24 hours, following the 3-1 defeat to Hearts and eight points behind the Tynecastle side in the Scottish Premiership title race, Rodgers and Celtic decided to part ways.”
VoetbalPrimeur (Belgium): “Dermot Desmond, majority shareholder of Celtic, has lashed out at Brendan Rodgers. The 52-year-old manager left the Scottish club on Monday evening, and Desmond has his fair share of complaints about Rodgers’s management.”
Nettavisen (Norway): “In Rodgers’ throat in an explosive tirade: – Simply a lie. The former Liverpool manager gets a big slap in the face from the powerful Celtic top brass.”
Tipsbladet (Denmark): “Brendan Rodgers has resigned from Celtic. As he leaves the door, the now former manager receives a gigantic verbal slap in the face from the major club’s majority owner, Dermot Desmond.
“He paints a picture of a toxic working environment at Celtic and blames Brendan Rodgers for it.”
Celtic’s reputation takes a battering and it’s not good news for the club
Whilst Celtic will be in the safe hands of Martin O’Neill for the short-term future, the headlines and stories could hamper the search for a permanent boss.
What manager in their right mind would want to come to a club that treats their former employees in such a fashion as Celtic have done with that statement last night?
While the statement from Desmond was clearly a result of some pent-up anger, it’s not a good look for Celtic, the fans or the club as a whole as turmoil continues to embroil the club with the team struggling on the park and needing a new manager.
