Everton to discuss Celtic-linked Josh King in key meeting this week

Everton will decide the future of Celtic-linked Josh King in a meeting early this week.

King has been linked with a stunning move to Parkhead under likely next Celtic manager Eddie Howe. The Scottish Sun reported last month that Howe had identified Norway international King as the man to replace Odsonne Edouard this summer.

It wouldn’t be a surprising want for Howe given King’s best spell in his career came under the Englishman. The two spent four years together before Howe departed the club last summer. King would then make a move to Everton on a short-term contract until the end of the season back in February.

Things haven’t gone to plan for him. He hasn’t scored a single goal for the Toffees in 11 matches for them [Transfermarkt]. And as Everton get set to make a decision on his future, they’ve pencilled in a meeting this week to come to a conclusion.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti said: “We have some positions to consider – Josh, Robin Olsen – and other players like Seamus who we would like to renew the contract.

“With Marcel Brand after the end of the season on Monday or Tuesday we are going to talk about all these kinds of situations.”

Everton striker Josh King to Celtic would be one fine coup

It’s easy to forget that Howe isn’t even in the door at Celtic Park, yet. You can bet, however, given the situation as it stands, that he’ll have been doing plenty of background work on what needs done. He’ll have the full picture of what’s required this summer, and he should come into the job with plenty of targets in mind.

If one of those is to be King, it would be a fantastic prospect. Considering he’s reportedly on £45k-per-week with Everton, however, it’ll be interesting to see how big a wage drop he’s really willing to take [Scottish Sun].

But you can’t whack the experience a player like King would bring to our forward line. He’s a powerhouse with both extensive English Premier League and Championship experience behind him. With 54 international caps to his name also, he’s come up against the best and competed well.

Celtic need a signing or two like this in the summer you feel. A couple of MVPs who will really lift the atmosphere and spirit of the supporters. That’s something we’ve been crying out for ever since Brendan Rodgers departed. Hopefully Howe, when he is confirmed, gets this level of backing.

Even if it isn’t King, there are plenty of exciting options out there to try and hunt down. The likes of Taiwo Awoniyi and Alberth Elis would also be decent options to add to our firepower.

For now, however, all eyes turn to early this week when Everton start putting plans in place for next season. Even the most optimistic Josh King fan wouldn’t expect the Toffees to be willing to keep him on.

In other news, a Honduran international who wanted a move to Celtic last month is now reportedly worth £8.5million.
