Celtic youngster Ewan Henderson appears to have been frozen out of first-team duties for now.
The attacking midfielder certainly shouldn’t feel down about that either. He’s had a mightily impressive period under both Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon before dropping back out.
Henderson has made five appearances for the Hoops, but has played a part in three goals this season. He set up two in his first two top-team matches. He then made a vital pass to help set-up Celtic’s first goal under Lennon at Tynecastle.

Since then, however, the youngster just hasn’t seen much game-time. Despite there clearly being plenty of energy and creativity to be developed, Henderson has made just two outings since.
The return of both Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic into the first-team fold also won’t help Hendo’s chances. Between now and the end of the season, you have to imagine Lennon will play the tried and tested in a bid to get the job permanently.
A big decision needs made in the summer
But come the summer, Celtic should really take advantage of the promise Henderson is showing and loan him out.
A move to another Premiership club could be exactly what the reserve star needs to stand out. He can look at the likes of Christie, Rogic, and Kristoffer Ajer as players who left temporarily only to come back and thrive after the experience.
Henderson is at a stage of his young career where he needs games and development. Celtic can really cash in on the promise he’s showed by letting him flourish in Scotland’s top division elsewhere.

It’s a decision that would be best for all parties involved. Henderson would get the games he requires, whilst Celtic can have a proper look at him from afar and see how he fares against the club’s bread and butter.
If he can standout the way both Christie and Ajer did at Aberdeen and Kilmarnock respectively, Henderson will be on to a winner.
It certainly beats the idea of a game every now and again next season whilst plying his trade mostly with the reserves.
