Ewan Henderson could benefit from Ross County relegation fight

Ewan Henderson says he’s “enjoying” life at Ross County despite a run that has seen the Dingwall side fail to win in eight matches.

The Celtic loanee has enjoyed a mixed start to life in the Highlands. After failing to nail down a place in the first-team originally, he has slowly worked his way into his co-manager’s plans – starting each of their last two matches.

Things could be going far better for County who have taken just four points from their last possible 24. However, Henderson is keeping a positive attitude as he thanked his team-mates for their recent support.

“The boys have been excellent with me,” he told the Ross-shire Journal. “I just need to keep my head down and keep working hard and hopefully we can get results.

“I’m just here to develop my game, play a lot of games and I feel like I’m doing that. I’m really enjoying my time here.”

County relegation fight wouldn’t be bad experience for Henderson

County may still sit 7th in the Premiership but their recent form does make their position a little precarious. Below them are the likes of Hearts and Livingston while St. Johnstone and St. Mirren have both shown signs of life in recent weeks.

Henderson won’t feature in that clash for eligibility reasons but he could strangely benefit from a relegation scrap this campaign. Put it this way, County playing crucial division defining games can’t be a bad thing for his development as a player.

If he’s going to make it at Celtic he’ll have to learn to deal with the pressure. So why not get used to it while out on loan. Kristoffer Ajer and Callum McGregor both avoided relegation narrowly while they were out on loan to Kilmarnock and Notts County respectively.

Those two don’t seem to be any worse for their struggles and neither would Henderson be. The whole point of sending a player out on loan is for him to develop as a player and a person. That could soon be the case with Henderson too.
