Celtic midfielder Ewan Henderson shouldn’t be too down-hearted at being taken off at half-time of the recent 0-0 draw with Aberdeen.
Indeed, so poor were the Hoops in the second-half it probably will end up providing a boost to Henderson going forward.
Tidy performance
The midfielder turned in a tidy performance in the first-half. But boss Neil Lennon elected to ring the changes at half-time. That saw Henderson replaced by Mikey Johnston, who struggled to make an impact on the game.
The change in midfield lead to Scott Brown and Nir Bitton spending too much time with the ball. That slowed the game to a crawl in the middle of the park. That would not have happened with Henderson on the pitch. He would have got the ball forward.
Should be starting
Now, it cannot be denied that when all the midfield is healthy, Henderson will probably be out of the side. But, until the likes of Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie return, Henderson should be starting.
The fact that the Hoops struggled without him against Aberdeen means he should be on the team-sheet to face Dundee on Sunday.
If that is one of his last starts of the season, due to players returning from injury so be it. But Henderson shouldn’t lose faith if that’s the case.
His performances thus far show he has a bright future at the club, no matter who is manager next season.
