Ex-Celtic coach Darren O’Dea ‘feels guilty’ about Hearts title prediction with a dose of ‘reality’

Hearts have been leading Celtic and Rangers at the top of the table for just over 21 weeks now as the Edinburgh club nears the top-six split.

Derek McInnes’ side are six points ahead of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table as the Parkhead club faces Rangers at Ibrox this weekend.

However, Darren O’Dea has said that he won’t believe Hearts can win the title until he ‘sees it’ and sends the Tynecastle club a ‘reality’ check.

Celtic fans would you rather: Win the Europa League but miss out on the league title?

Or… get knocked out of the Europa League and win the title?

Ex-Celtic coach Darren O’Dea ‘won’t believe’ Hearts title win until he ‘sees it’

The former Celtic coach admits he’s not impressed with his old club or Rangers in the title run-in, but sends a big message to Hearts.

O’Dea told The Go Radio Football Show, “I don’t think any of the teams are really putting up a case to change my mind. But Celtic aren’t kind of making me more confident either.

“I feel guilty saying this about Hearts because I don’t want to disrespect anything that they’ve done and Derek McInnes’ job because he’s clearly done an outstanding job. But the reality is for them to win the league, it’s unprecedented. So I won’t believe it till I see it.

“Even though it’s staring at us right now at the top of the league, it’s not an absolute certainty that they can win the league. I’ve never seen it.”

O’Dea says winner of Rangers vs Celtic will ‘spark’ title fight

With the Glasgow Derby just days away, O’Dea believes that if Celtic or Rangers win it, it could ignite both club’s title fight.

O’Dea continued, “So I just have something in my head that I won’t believe it till I see it.

“And then I look at the other two and I just don’t see it in either team. I think this Sunday will tell us a lot, not just in terms of the points in the swing, but the feeling that will be carried forward from the winner. If it’s a draw, obviously, neither get that feeling.

“But I think the team that wins this weekend out of Rangers and Celtic might just give them the spark.”

Talk of Hearts will take to the backburner this week because as every Celtic fan knows, a win over Rangers is all that matters.

And if that happens at Ibrox, could a victory at our biggest rivals really spark some title fight in this side? Every Hoops supporter will certainly hope so.
