Celtic are a club with more competition than most for starting places, which can create scenarios where two quality players have to battle for the same position.

Giorgos Giakoumakis nears another move after Celtic
Taking to social media platform X, world-renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Giakoumakis is nearing a move to Liga MX outfit Cruz Azul, with only minor negotiations left to carry out before a deal can be completed for a fee of $10 million (£7.82 million).
He stated: “Cruz Azul have agreed on personal terms with Giōrgos Giakoumakīs, now close to completing deal with Atlanta United. After $10m bid revealed last week, Cruz Azul and Atlanta are negotiating on the installments, considered final details. Getting closer.”
Giakoumakis has already hit five goals in his opening eight MLS fixtures this term, continuing a familiar trend of scoring at will that he showed over the course of his time at Celtic [ESPN].
Now in his prime at 29, moving to Mexico would be another step up in quality for the former VVV-Venlo man, with Cruz Azul firmly among the heavyweights in the country.
Celtic fans have always held an appreciation for Giakoumakis and it is refreshing to see his career going from strength to strength.
