Former Celtic star Didier Agathe has left his managerial role at Durham City, however, according to the club’s CEO it might not all be down to results, the Sunderland Echo reports.

Agathe had took charge of nine games at the Northern League Division Two side. He had a poor record of one draw and eight defeats.

However, despite this, Durham City CEO and owner Olivier Bernard claims that Agathe’s exit is not just down to results.

“Sad to see him go”

“Unfortunately the situation at the club has changed and Didier has had to leave. Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to communicate the reasons behind this, but I can say that I am sad to see him go” Bernard said, as quoted by the Sunderland Echo.

“He can do well in a job, the players were right behind him here, even though we were in a difficult situation. Didier has done enough to show that he can be a good manager, and I am sure that is what he will do” Bernard concluded.

This is certainly an interesting situation. Agathe’s results weren’t the best, but Bernard’s comments seem to suggest that wasn’t the reason that he left the club.

It is also interesting that the players backed the manager even though the results were poor. When managers are sacked player power can sometimes be a reason. That does not seem to be the case with Agathe.

Hopefully not put off future managerial roles

Hopefully this doesn’t put Agathe off any managerial roles in the future. After all, Bernard said that he thinks that he has the ability to become a good manager.

Who knows, maybe Neil Lennon will invite him to Celtic Park to help out on occasion. After all, the duo did play together at Celtic for many years.

Only time will tell what Didier Agathe gets up to next in football. However, the reasons for his exit from Durham City might not be found out for a while yet.

In other news, Darren O’Dea was surprised Celtic managed to sign Shane Duffy.
