Former Celtic winger Scott Sinclair has found his goalscoring mojo again.
The 31-year-old had a difficult 2019/20 campaign, barely featuring for Celtic under Neil Lennon before making a switch to Preston North End in January.
Just three goals in 18 appearances would come in the second half of last term, but he is now one of the form players in the entire English Championship.
Only four players in the division have scored more than his seven goals this season and they are all out-and-out forwards.
Sinclair, primarily deployed as a left-sided winger, is taking the league by storm.
His finish at home to Middlesbrough last night was typical of his ability, committing with pace on the overlap to find a shooting opportunity before firing low and hard into the far bottom corner.
There’s absolutely no doubt that Sinclair’s form at Celtic regressed heavily from his outstanding first couple of years at the club, though he always did have a knack for popping up and banging in a goal.
Unfortunately it just never worked out for him under Lennon and some Celtic fans are now looking at his current heroics and feeling that tinge of regret.
Sinclair is far from over-the-hill and having someone of his experience and ability in the squad could have been useful this season, especially with our lack of natural and fit wide players.
It is one of the transfer decisions this year that some might call questionable, but that’s with the benefit of hindsight of course.
For me, it’s nice to see Sinclair find a new place to shine. I always liked him as a player and he deserves a footballing home that shows off his ability at a good level.
