The controversy surrounding Celtic’s Premier Sports Cup win over Rangers will probably be spoken about all season.
As Martin O’Neill masterminded Celtic’s win over Rangers, the Ibrox club and support focus on refereeing injustices in the game.
The fallout over Celtic defender Auston Trusty’s challenge on Jack Butland has taken centre stage this week as many pundits and ex-players chip in with their opinion on whether or not the American should have been sent off or not.
However, it appears that there was a referee injustice foisted upon Celtic as former SFA whistlers Des Roache and Steve Conroy post footage of a penalty Nick Walsh and VAR missed after a challenge on Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate.

The Celtic penalty missed after a clear foul on Reo Hatate vs Rangers
It seems that whilst everyone in the media cries about Trusty, there are plenty of decisions in the win over Rangers that also went against Celtic.
And whilst the Parkhead club hold a dignified silence, a social media account representing former SFA referees Des Roache and Steve Conroy say that a ‘clear penalty’ should have been awarded to Celtic at Hampden on Sunday.
Taking to X, The Ref’s View posted, “We were sent this clip. That is a clear penalty. At the very least it should have been reviewed.”
For us, that is a 100% clear penalty, and it’s amazing that not one person in the media or pundit land is speaking about it.
The other red card Rangers should have had vs Celtic
Thelo Aasgaard was correctly sent off for a horrific challenge on Celtic defender Anthony Ralston, but it appears that another Rangers player should have been shown his marching orders.
Derek Cornelius is another player who should have seen red after his ankle-high lunge at Celtic striker Johnny Kenny. The footage can be seen here.
It was clearly a dangerous tackle that could have had serious consequences for the Celtic striker, but thankfully, he was okay and went on to score the opening goal a couple of minutes later.
