Celtic youngster Cameron Harper scored a delightful derby double against Rangers yesterday in the Glasgow Cup.

The young Hoops booked their place in the final of the tournament with a resounding 3-0 win over their rivals.

A Harper double and an Armstrong Oko-Flex effort did the job.

It was a positive afternoon for Mikey Johnston as well, who made his return to match action after almost 11 months. The winger played in the first half, which will boost his efforts to make a first-team impact.

It’s Harper who most are talking about after the match though, as excitement builds about the attacking potential he has.

We’ve written a couple of articles on the USA U20s prospect over the last few months.

Neil Lennon provided some very promising quotes on the attacker back in September, hinting that he had first-team football in his future at Celtic.

The young American himself then talked about the training progress he had made over the summer, building muscle and physical strength ahead of a big season.

He’s already made the bench on multiple occasions this season and as Celtic look for a bit of inspiration in the final third, surely isn’t far away from his debut.

Harper told The Athletic earlier this year that he is progressing faster than he thought he would, and goals at youth level against the Ibrox lot won’t do his chances of senior action any harm.

Some fans are already convinced he’s destined to make an impact and yesterday’s double has done little to dissuade them.

These supporters have taken to Twitter over the last 24 hours to share their thoughts, an example of the excitement building about his future…
