Celtic will be crowned 2019/20 Scottish Premiership champions according to a new report from The Telegraph this evening and it won’t be an unofficial title like triumphs that took place during World War II.

The last time matches were suspended during the season was the 1939-40 campaign, with the outbreak of war meaning the old First Division was suspended until 1946.

Special wartime football took place in the 1940s despite Scotland and Britain being engaged in the ongoing fight with Axis forces, with leagues divided regionally and play-offs occurring to decide the Scottish champions.

However, any titles won during this period have been seen as unofficial and not counting towards anyone’s title tally.

The Telegraph state this evening however that most clubs are adamantly opposed to this being the case for Celtic.

A source told reporter Roddy Forsyth: “There were no TV deals and large-scale commercial contracts during the war. It’s just not going to happen.”

Clearly this is good news from Celtic’s perspective and means our nine-in-a-row triumph will be officially recognised not just by supporters but also the other clubs, the SPFL and Scottish FA.

There has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks about how everything is going to shake out in Scottish football but it appears we’re now starting to get a bit of clarity about the intentions of the clubs and decision-makers at Hampden.

The narrative that Celtic shouldn’t be declared champions was always a bit desperate and it seems people perpetrating that are about to be left very unhappy by the SPFL’s decision.
