Celtic’s 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock has already been much discussed. Scott Brown’s late winner caused a mini pitch invasion, seats were damaged whilst Killie sub Kris Boyd was hit by a coin.
As someone who was at the game, here are some thoughts on the more controversial incidents surrounding the match.
First of all, the Kris Boyd coin throwing incident is shameful. It paints all of the club’s supporters in a bad light, and the person responsible should be banned.
Mindless damage to stadium
Same with the broken seats, that sort of damage is just mindless and will leave Celtic with a bill to pay. Indeed, Killie have already asked Celtic to pay for the damage.
It is unlikely either incident impressed Brendan Rodgers or the Hoops chief executive Peter Lawwell either.
Where I will cut the support some slack is on the pitch invasion. The team had scored a vital last minute winner and secured three points which could be vital in clinching the league title.
Fans were exuberant
It’s no wonder that the fans got exuberant. The Hoops players seemed to enjoy celebrating with the fans too.
Referee Bobby Madden’s performance was also under the spotlight. He sent-off two players, Kirk Broadfoot and Scott Brown.
Broadfoot can have no complaints about his red after a poor challenge on Brown. Brown however, was slightly fortunate not to be sent-off for the challenge which saw him booked in the first-half. On another day, that could have been a red card.
All in all, it was a poor performance from Celtic but getting the three points was all important, in a win which could all but clinch the league title.
